Elfen Lied

Episodes: 13 and 1 OAV

Plot:

Elfen Lied takes place in Kamakura, Japan, focusing on a new strain of the human race - Diclonius, similar to ordinary human beings, yet different at the genetic level and notable due to physical abnormalities, particularly a pair of short horn-like protrusions. One such Diclonius, Lucy, is the main character of the series: initially held in a facility built for experimentation, located off the coast of Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, she manages to escape and wreak havoc, but is injured in the process, an event which causes her to develop a secondary, child-like personality known as Nyu.

She is found by two local residents, Kohta, who studies at the local university, and his cousin Yuka. They agree to take her in, becoming involved with the numerous, often brutal, attempts to recapture Lucy by a Special Assault Team and a number of other Diclonius, who shift from oblivious to murderous frequently. Other characters include Bando, a SAT trooper who was mauled by Lucy and infected with a virus, and Kurama, a carrier of the virus.
While the animated series ends with Lucy confronting a large team of SAT members, after which she disappears, the manga continues by showing the mad plans of Kakuzawa, leader of the Diclonius' research, and his ultimate failure. The world itself is endangered. [Source: Wikipedia]

A Wind Named Amnesia

A Wind Named Amnesia also known as Wind of Amnesia in the United Kingdom, is a Japanese novel authored by Hideyuki Kikuchi, originally published in 1983 by Asahi Sonorama.

Synopsis:

The Apocalypse didn't come with a bang, but with a whimper. Silently, the amnesia wind swept away all of mankind's knowledge. Thousands of years of human civilization vanished overnight as people forgot how to use the tools of modern civilization - who they were - how to speak - everything. Technology decayed as mankind was reduced to level of cavemen.
Now, two years later, a young man explores a nation reduced to barbarism - America. Miraculously re-educated after the cataclysm, he is accompanied by a young woman - somehow spared the obliterating effects of the amnesia wind. Pursued by a relentless killing machine, they search for those responsible for stealing their memories. [Source: Wikipedia]

Casper: The Friendly Ghost [1995]

I used to have this huge crash on Devon Sawa when I was a kid and I made a promise that I would watch all of this films on a movie marathon session one day. I was checking my external hard drive when I saw my copy of Casper, the 1995 movie which stars Christina Ricci and Devon Sawa. I remembered watching this when I was in elementary during a film showing and let's just say this is one of my absolute favorites.

Lover's Concerto by Kelly Chen

I fell in love with this song after watching her [Kelly Chen] and Takeshi Kaneshiro on a 1998 movie entitled "Anna Magdalena".

-----------------------------------
Taken from Wikipedia:

Title:

The title refers to the keyboard piece Minuet in G Major believed to have been written by Johann Sebastian Bach's colleague, Christian Petzold, from the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach[2]. Anna Magdalena was Bach's second wife. The music attracts the attention of Chan Kar-fu and Yau Muk-yan as Kelly Chen's character plays it on her piano. The film score uses this theme repeatedly.

Synopsis:

The film structure loosely follows that of the minuet: four "movements", which are announced by titles: two themes, a duet, and a set of variations[2]. 1- Chan Kar-fu's (Takeshi Kaneshiro) introduction 2- Yau Muk-yan's (Aaron Kwok) effect on his life 3- Mok Man-Yee's (Kelly Chen) effect on their lives 4- Chan Kar-fu's literary vision of love.[5] This fourth "movement" (Variations) is a wild fantasy on the previous material, based on the novel written by Kaneshiro's character: The XO Pair[3].
Unemployed aspiring writer Yau Muk-yan (Aaron Kwok) moves into the apartment of Chan Kar-fu (Takeshi Kaneshiro), a shy piano tuner. Both will soon fall in love with their new neighbor Mok Man-Yee (Kelly Chen).

-------------------------------

Kelly Chen's rendition of the song is just so soothing I cannot help but fall in love with it. If you want to download the movie, click here and be sure to download the English Subtitle here. For the mp3 version of Kelly Chen's - Lover's Concerto you can get it here.

Norwegian Wood by The Beatles

Norwegian Wood (Made Famous by The Beatles)
Norwegian Wood (Made Famous by The Beatles)

I once had a girl or should I say she once had me .... yep there's Norwegian Wood for you and this song has been stuck on my head ever since I finished reading the book of the same title a couple of months back. Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood had its name from that song and I fell in love with it. I cannot wait for the release of the movie but for the mean time I am humming this song over and over.

Secret

I fell in love with Jay Chou after watching this movie entitled Secret. How I learned about the existence of the movie was through pure accident, I think. I was searching for something on Google, what it was I could no longer recall but I ran into this forum where one of the respondents had this for her signature:

It doesn't matter if we will meet again
It doesn't matter if you will remember me
I just want to tell you a secret.

I was intrigued so I googled the phrase and ended up with search results of the movie "Secret" which stars Jay Chou. So to make the long story short, I downloaded the movie, watched it and fell hopelessly in love with this artist, a well accomplished musician [he's one awesome pianist], director, actor and spokesperson. His accomplishments seem endless whew! So after watching "Secret" I spent the following days downloading just about every movie he is in and yes all of his albums. They're in Mandarin but it seems as if my Mandarin classes have somewhat paid off as I can understand a "few".

The movie's official soundtrack is pretty amazing too (nothing less from Jay Chou of course!) and you can download it by visiting the Downloadable Goodies page. Yes, I am on a mission to spread the love, the music of Jay Chou. (Gosh! How many times have I typed his name already? waaaaaaaaaa)

If anyone's interested on his other albums ... then please leave a message here and I'll upload them. Seriously you'd fall in love with it even if you don't understand Mandarin, music knows no bounds after all.

Okaeri by Ayaka

This song has been stuck in my head, my play list and in my iPod ever since I watched Zettai Kareshi [Absolute Boyfriend].

2008 Japanese Drama: Zettai Kareshi w/ English Subtitle
2008 Japanese Drama: Zettai Kareshi w/ English Subtitle

It's a Japanese drama based from the manga illustrated by Yuu Watase. You can read the plot on wiki. There's a huge difference from the manga and the live-action but I love the series just the same. Sometimes it made me wish I could be like Riko and order a boyfriend robot. Nyahahah .... Now at the end of each episode is a song entitled Okaeri by Ayaka and this song is just stuck in my head. After a little digging I found out that Ayaka is the wife of Hiro Mizushima who played the role of Soshi Asamoto in the series.

Let's watch the music video of the song .... God her voice is just beautiful.

A Song To Sing by Hanson

Earlier today I was busy organizing my stuff and ran into old things from my elementary and high school days. I found the box that contained all my cassette tapes and realized that I have a copy of Hanson's This Time Around album.

This Time Around
This Time Around

I started playing it on my cassette player and surprisingly it still plays. It must have been what ... close to 10 years since I last played it and it's still working. I have a few favorites from this album and one of them is A Song To Sing. If you want you can download the file here.
